The town of Ventnor, on the Isle of Wight, lies on the south facing slope of St Boniface Down, on an ancient landslide complex which makes it quite distinctive as a resort. The Isle of Wight town of Ventnor offers rugged, and in places, dramatic scenery, crossed by zigzag paths, set with Victorian properties all jostling for glorious views of the English Channel.
With its warm sunshine, rare winter frosts and fascinating flora and fauna Ventnor has been likened to a Mediterranean town, and this attracts many visitors to the beaches and hotels of Ventnor, on the Isle of Wight.
Ventnor has adopted Hygeia, the Greek goddess of health as its figurehead reflecting the health giving properties of Ventnor and the undercliff's microclimate. | ![]() |
The local government of Ventnor is split between the Town Council, based at the Winter Gardens and the IOW Council, in Newport. Ventnor Town Councillors are elected to serve the five wards of the town, with two of them serving as County Councillors. All residents are invited to make contact with the Councillor representing their ward if they have any concerns about the civic running of the town, or to attend public meetings where issues affecting the town are discussed.
